About Cleethorpes Boating Lake
Set at the southern end of Cleethorpes on Kings Road, Cleethorpes Boating Lake is a lovely place to spend a few hours outdoors, whether you're visiting with children, meeting friends or simply enjoying a peaceful walk. With two connected lakes, waterside paths, wildlife and plenty of space to stop for a picnic, it offers a quieter side of the resort just away from the main seafront.
During the warmer months, visitors can take to the southern lake with seasonal rowing boat and pedalo hire. It's a fun way to see the surroundings from the water and a popular family activity when the hire service is operating. Availability, prices and the selection of boats can vary with the season and weather, so check Cleethorpes Boating Lake Hire before travelling specifically to get out on the water.
The northern lake has a different feel. It is associated with fishing and occasional model boating, and its illuminated fountain is a familiar feature of the area. Both lakes are surrounded by grass and generally level walking paths, making them pleasant for a gentle stroll, watching the ducks and other water birds, or relaxing by the water. Follow local signs and fishing rules, and take care around the water's edge.
Families will also find an outdoor sandpit and play area, while Cleethorpes' open-air paddling pool sits towards the northern end of the lakes. The paddling pool and some other activities are seasonal, so check whether they are open on the day you plan to visit. The lawns around the lakes provide space for a picnic, with the nearby coastal attractions offering plenty more to explore.
If you fancy something to eat or drink, the Discovery Centre beside the lake is home to Cleethorpes TapHouse and Kitchen. It's a convenient stop for refreshments after a walk or time on the water, with public toilets also available in the boating lake area. Opening times for businesses and facilities can vary.
There's now another reason to visit this part of Cleethorpes: East Coast Padel Cleethorpes opened nearby in October 2026, on the former Jungle Zoo site off Kings Road. The club has five courts, including covered courts, and welcomes newcomers as well as regular players. Courts can be booked through the Playtomic app or website, and rackets are available to hire if you don't have your own. The padel venue has its own parking arrangements, separate from the council's boating lake car park.
Driving to the boating lake is straightforward, with a large council pay-and-display car park right beside the attraction on Kings Road. Parking is chargeable during posted hours. You can pay at the ticket machines or through PayByPhone using location code 807650; always check the signs and current tariff when you arrive. The car park has numerous spaces, although it can become busy on sunny days and during school holidays. Bus routes 8 and 10 also stop nearby.
The lakeside walking area is open throughout the year, but boat hire, paddling pool sessions and other activities have their own seasonal schedules. For a relaxed visit, allow time to walk around both lakes, enjoy the wildlife, stop at the Discovery Centre and, if you feel active, book a game of padel next door.
